Mechanical Maintenance Manager

Purpose of the role

As the Mechanical Maintenance Manager, you will lead and manage the mechanical personnel within the Maintenance team and be responsible for undertaking plant maintenance (preventative & reactive) repairs and improvements to ensure reliability of all plant and associated areas. You will also be required to assist your team members in all aspects of plant operation as the needs of the business require.

Key Accountabilities

  • To effectively manage a team of 15 direct reports
  • To ensure the mechanical maintenance back log is kept under control with reference to the established KPI’s
  • Review the mechanical maintenance backlog on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Compile daily/weekly reports with regards to maintenance work completion
  • Liaise with all mechanical maintenance personnel to ensure work is completed correctly on the CMMS and reported accurately and within the daily reporting system.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in accordance with relevant legislation (PSSR, PUWER and LOLA)
  • Schedule planned preventative maintenance checks and ensure they are completed to schedule.
  • Identify improvements to plant and modify in accordance with the management of change process (MOC)
  • Cover the duties of the Maintenance Manager in their absence
  • To carry out direct reports 1to1 development reviews on a quarterly basis
  • Carry out disciplinary investigations/meetings in accordance with the company’s disciplinary procedure
  • Manage all direct reports’ timekeeping and attendance
  • Write and develop Risk Assessment & Method statements and support all members of the mechanical maintenance team with this requirement.
  • Manage a variety of Service Contract Companies that visit site on a frequent basis to carry routine service maintenance on a variety of equipment.

Person Specifications:

  • In the chemical or related industry
  • Experience of working in a COMAH manufacturing site
  • Experience in hands-on, practical mechanical maintenance
  • IOSH certificate
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with the following regulations is an advantage:
    • PSSR (Pressure System Safety Regulations)
    • LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations)
    • PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations)
