Our Team

John is the son of the original co-founder, who sadly passed away in late October 2019. Under his Dad’s tutorship, John has gained extensive experience within the business across many functions both in the UK and internationally.

Allen is one of the co-founders, he has extensive experience with a particular focus on transport and distribution. Allen has been alongside John as a driving force and again has extensive long term industry relationships.

Charles has extensive experience within the business across many functions both in the UK and internationally. Charles has particular expertise and relationships in product sourcing, imports and key accounts. Charles joined ICL straight from school.

Edwin (Chartered Accountant (CA); Fellow of Institute of Directors (FIOD)) has extensive experience in senior business management both in the UK and internationally. Edwin joined ICL as Group Finance Director in March 2012 and has had his current role as Managing Director since August 2014.

Steven (Fellow Chartered Global Management Accountant (FCGMA®)) ; Member of Institute of Directors (MIOD) has extensive experience in both finance and general management working in the UK and across Europe, in various senior roles. Steven is responsible for all Finance, Legal, IT, Procurement and HR.

CIPD-qualified HR Manager with over 20 years of comprehensive experience across the private and public sectors. Lucy joined ICL in 2016, taking the lead in HR and payroll operations to develop a high-performance culture. Her focus includes promoting empowerment, quality, productivity, and adherence to standards, while driving workforce recruitment & development.

Ben (BSc ACA) joined the company in 2006 as Head of Finance. In the 2012 restructure, he moved to working with directly for the board on a variety of projects and was added to the board as Company Secretary in 2015.

John has been actively involved in all plant construction and maintenance projects internationally, including the Chlor Alkali plant at West Thurrock.

Danny has extensive experience in the transport and logistics sector, including petrochemicals, supported by a strong and experienced support team. Danny has worked for leading companies incl. United Tankers; Mobil; BP Oil and AAH (Pharma).

Dr Richard Smith (BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD, FCIWM, CRWM, FRGS, FHEA, AMEI, AFIChemE) joined ICL in July 2020 as Environment Manager before becoming Associate Director – Regulatory Affairs in January 2023. Richard has extensive operational, regulatory, academic, consultancy and government experience as a senior manager. Focusing on organisational change, Richard leads the ICL Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Team, SHE Council and ESG strategy, supported by a strong and experienced team.

Tim joined ICL commercial team in 2010 following roles as general manager and commercial manager in the Chemical Manufacturing and Chemical Distribution sector. He is an experienced chlor-alkali and water treatment chemicals market professional. Tim also manages the commercial development of new products and innovations as part of the joint commercial and scientific team.

Steve has extensive experience in water treatment product chemistry is valued internally and with ICL customers. He and his team manage the labs and academic partnerships with leading universities specialising in the sector. Steve also manages our COSHH assessment process.

Darren has energy and renewables experience from a number of roles before joining ICL. He is responsible for managing utilities relationships, contracts and costs, with active involvement in a number of key projects, including our patented RASHCA technology (waste to energy project).

Paul has contractor experience in oil, gas and process industries, with extensive chemicals operations experience. Furthermore Paul has gained plant management experience at Grays, before becoming Site Manager at West Thurrock and later Associate Director of Operations.

Peter joined ICL as a lab chemist; completed his MBA and became Quality Assurance Manager in April 2001. He has extensive experience in the business and was central to creation of the initial COMAH Safety Report for West Thurrock. Peter’s primary responsibility is the development and maintenance of the Quality Management system.
