Senior Transport Supervisor/ Assistant Transport Manager

Purpose of the role

This pivotal role will supervise all transport activities to ensure that the delivery plan is completed in accordance with customers’ requirements, whilst optimising the company fleet and ensuring legal compliance.

Key Accountabilities

• Act as the focal point for all daily operational Transport issues.
• Any other tasks deemed reasonable by Line Manger.
• Act as a focal point for Customer Service where required to share your knowledge & experience within ICL.
• Act as a focal point for other Transport Supervisors to share your experience.
• Act as a focal point for Transport Planners where required to share your knowledge & experience within ICL.
• Monitor the performance of the company fleet, use Microlise to its optimum and challenge drivers where necessary.
• Monitor the performance of the sub-contractor fleet and raise any issues with the appropriate company.
• Document all changes to the Delivery Plan and produce an accurate Confirmed Delivery Plan which can be used for the purposes of driver’s pay and the confirmation of sub-contractors costs.
• Plan Vehicle Maintenance to Statutory Regulations.
• Ensure all Vehicle Maintenance Files show an auditable trail.
• Responding to customer enquiries, providing quotations and keeping them updated as to the progress of deliveries.
• Authorise all company driver’s pay.
• Check & authorise Contractor Cost as required.
• Reviewing routes and suppliers to ensure transport is planned cost effectively and to maximise profitability.
• Producing weekly KPIs as directed by your Line Manager.
• Ensure that the Fuel Management system is correctly used by all West Thurrock & Newport Drivers.
• Undertake incident investigations and refer for disciplinary action where appropriate.
• Provide a daily Operations Sheet to the Planners confirming holidays, sickness, rest days and vehicle availability.
• Provide an accurate Night Loader sheet for pre-loads and monitor the performance of the night loading operation.
• Act as a named representative on the Company Operator’s License.
• Ensure drivers are working within legislation requirements, including WTD, tachos.
• Ensure planning works in conjunction with maintenance for different vehicle types.
• Ensuring paperwork is filed accurately and in a timely manner.
• Managing priorities to achieve desired results and deadlines.
• Leading by example with a self-motivated, “can do” approach to achieving requirements & targets.
