Shift Analytical Chemist

Purpose of the role

To contribute to the efficient operation of the Quality Laboratory by the accurate and timely analysis of samples, by collating and interpreting associated data, and initiating corrective action where appropriate.

Key Accountabilities

• Adherence to all Laboratory Safety and Hygiene Policies
• Knowledge of Quality systems, testing methods and equipment operation
• Analysis of samples
• Recording of analytical data
• Acceptance of samples into the laboratory, verification of Lab logbook entry, complete identification and security.
• Timely analysis of samples in accordance with product specifications and designated methods.
• The recording in full of analytical measurements in personal workbook or designated worksheets, along with signature and date.
• Recording of calibration results and reporting any anomalies so that the Laboratory Supervisor is aware of them.
• Regular routine standardisation of reagents in accordance with the prescribed techniques and frequency.
• Give close attention to appropriate chemical hygiene, laboratory cleanliness, and housekeeping. Through systematic handling of samples, reagents, solvents and equipment, ensure that work areas are clean and free of clutter.
• Through reference research and experimentation devise methods to analyse specific properties of given products.
• Replace gas cylinders when they approach empty, after isolating equipment as necessary.
• Assist the Laboratory Supervisor in training new recruits to the laboratory.
• Carry out other duties as directed by the Laboratory Supervisor
